Jack White long shied away from both politics and social media, but these days he has an Instagram account where he holds nothing back. On Sunday (November 20), the musician made a scathing post condemning billionaire super-villain Elon Musk for reinstating former president Donald Trump on failing microblogging platform Twitter.
White called Musk "absolutely disgusting," saying that reinstating Trump was "officially an asshole move." He accused Musk of "trying to help a fascist have a platform so you can eventually get your tax breaks," and attacked Musk's supposed support of free speech, saying, "if I owned a gas station, I wouldn't be selling the KKK gasoline to burn crosses."
He added that he used to support Musk because of his Tesla cars, and acknowledged that Musk "[deserves] a lot of compliments in that department." These days, though, Musk is "endangering the democracy that made you rich and successful in the first place."
His Instagram gallery includes a screenshot of a tweet by NYC congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who pointed out that the lies Trump spread on Twitter helped incite the attack on the capitol on January 6, 2021.
As of this writing, Jack White's label, Third Man Records, has deleted its Twitter account.
