Jack White got engaged and married during his album release show on April 8, and now he has explained how he orchestrated the plan.
Speaking with Stephen Colbert on The Last Show last night (April 20), White confirmed that his partner Olivia Jean had no idea he was planning to propose.
"She was very surprised," White said. "Ben Swank, who works at Third Man Records, he's also a minister of some church on the internet, I don't know. He was backstage. I asked her [Olivia Jean], 'Do you want to get married now or do you want to wait?' And she goes, 'No, right now, this a great day!'"
White's decision to propose at the concert was at least partly spontaneous. He said, "I thought, as the day was going on, if the day had some left turns, maybe it wasn't the right day — but the day kept going so well, I figured it was a good time to do it." Earlier in the day, he performed "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the Detroit Tigers game, and the team even won the game.
