It's All Happening

BY Dave SynyardPublished Jun 10, 2009

Contrary to what this album title wants you to believe, "it" isn't happening, at least not at first. Only after a two-and-a-half-minute weird techno intro and another 40 seconds of "The Cat's Pajamas" does Iwrestledabearonce finally make things happen. Iwrestledabearonce have some serious musical ability floating throughout this album, like the wicked-ass throat-shredding vocals from Krysta Cameron, the tripped out techno elements that, when paired with their spiralling guitar, are nauseating, and an amalgamated amount of technical Dillinger-ness, accompanied by hardcore and a sprinkle of metal. It's only when the band turn to jazz that things become weird, but while it does feels out of place on It's All Happening, the album isn't overrun by it. "Tastes Like Kevin Bacon" has the best title of the album and is definitely the best representation of Iwresteldabearonce's absolute insanity; it's like taking crazy pills and then headbanging the night away. No way anyone who loves face-melting riffs, Tinnitus-inducing vocals and something a little different would avoid this f'd up dance party.
