Iron Maiden Finally Immortalized with New RPG

Metal legends Iron Maiden have always lent a sense of mythology to their songs, album art and merch, so it's kind of surprising that it's taken them this long to create a role-playing game. Fortunately, that's about to change with plans for a new RPG.

The free mobile game is called Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast, and it allows players to take on the role of Eddie in his various forms — each with a different set of abilities. A press release adds that you'll "explore new worlds, travel through time, and battle a cast of dramatic and engaging characters drawn from the expansive catalogue of Maiden's albums and art."

Naturally, the whole game will be soundtracked by Maiden, with songs from the band's entire career. It'll also include previously unreleased live recordings, adapted by engineer Tony Newton and bassist Steve Harris.

"We always thought Maiden's music and imagery with Eddie could be perfect for gaming and it's something we have been looking at doing again since Ed Hunter in 1999," Harris said, referencing the band's last Eddie-themed videogame. "Now in 2016 it can all be done on a smartphone which makes it even more accessible for all our fans and also all the gamers out there."

Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast will hit iOS and Android phones this summer.
