Indian Handcrafts

If it's possible to out-Big-Business Big Business, Barrie, ON's Indian Handcrafts gave it their best effort during their impressively loud Rifflandia set. Their ode to all things noisy and Melvins-y was met with full-on approval from a crowd mostly biding their time (and their beer budget) until punk darlings Fucked Up hit the stage. Three songs in, however, the duo's tone began to change. Things got groovy and grungey (Soundgarden much?) and a tad '90s, which only added to their hick suburb appeal. Supposedly, there were a gaggle of Barrie transplants in the crowd, drummer/vocalist Brandyn James joking that they constituted "approximately 30 percent of the crowd." And during frenetic noise punker "Terminal Horse," guitarist/vocalist Daniel Brandon Allen, full of hoots and whoops, was playing his riffs at what seemed to be the speed of sound. Indian Handcrafts finished their set with more of the groove, those big, boisterous, bottom-ended boomers definitely inspired by '90s rage rock. Yeah, guys, Rage Against the Machine just called, and they do want those couple of riffs back.
