Hypocrisy

A Taste of Extreme Divinity

BY Denise FalzonPublished Nov 3, 2009

The almighty Peter Tägtgren has done it again. The songwriter, vocalist, guitarist, producer and overall metal mastermind has released another classic melodic death metal album with his main band, Hypocrisy. A Taste of Extreme Divinity is everything that's expected from the influential Swedes and more: crushing brutality, atmospheric melodies, killer riffs, apocalyptic themes and bestial vocals are all taken to the next level on this follow-up to 2005's Virus. Not one track on the record falls flat; from the brutality of "Valley of the Damned" and "Hang Him High" to the melodious "Solar Empire" and "No Tomorrow," Hypocrisy simply don't do filler tracks, as each tune has its purpose. Also, for his second album with the band, drummer Reidar "Horgh" Horghagen (Immortal) delivers more ferocity than ever. A Taste of Extreme Divinity was definitely well worth the four-year wait, resulting in one of Hypocrisy's best releases. And with Tägtgren at the helm, anything less than the best is extremely unlikely.
