They Came From the Sky is a punk rock hallucinogenic. It's an album that isn't interested in a single sound or era, and it'd rather let the listener decide whether it's punk or garage rock. It's a release perhaps best described as proto-punk... from the future: Iggy and Zappa meet Fugazi for a disorienting but brilliant 30 minutes of alien-obsessed experimentation. Timmy Vulgar's vocals are occasionally off-putting, but they often fade in an out of prominence during the washes of fuzzy, sometimes Sabbath-inspired riffs (no more so than on "Serpent Shadow"). However, for all its eccentricities, They Came From the Sky winds up as a surprisingly coherent listen.
