Bryan St. Pere — the longtime drummer of cult indie heroes Hum — has died. The band confirmed the news today, stating St. Pere had passed away at the age of 52.

As of press time, no cause of death has been revealed, but St. Pere's Hum bandmates said his passing was "sudden" and "unexpected."

In a Facebook post, Hum wrote the following:

It is with very heavy hearts and tear filled eyes that we share the news that our beloved friend and bandmate, Bryan St. Pere, has passed away. We are devastated and deeply saddened by his sudden, and unexpected passing. Bryan was a dear friend, a loving father, brother, and was an incredible person and musician. We all feel extremely lucky to have shared time and space with him. Peace and love to all who knew Bryan, and those he touched. We will miss him dearly.

St. Pere had been playing with Hum since their early beginning and joined the group in 1990. He played on all of the band's albums, including their 1995 breakthrough effort You'd Prefer an Astronaut and the classic Downward Is Heavenward. St. Pere also drummed on Hum's recent comeback album Inlet, which came out last year.
