Hot Panda Unveil Sophomore Album on Mint Records

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 28, 2010

If you're a keyboard-loving indie pop band in the western half of Canada, there's a pretty good chance that Mint Records will come knocking at your door. That's what happened to Edmonton's Hot Panda, whose debut Volcano... Bloody Volcano was released via Mint early last year. Now, the band are gearing up to release their sophomore album, How Come I'm Dead?, on October 12.

The album was recorded at Vancouver's JC/DC Studios with producers John Collins and Dave Carswell, who have previously worked with the New Pornographers, Destroyer, and Tegan and Sara.

Since their last album, Hot Panda have had some line-up turnover, with keyboardist/guitarist Heath Parsons and bassist Catherine Hiltz joining the fold. Earlier this year, they told Canada.com that the new album would be "a very different-sounding project" from the careening circus pop of their debut. According to a press release, the new recordings "[borrow] quirky influences from Roxy Music and the Talking Heads."

The band currently only have two tour dates booked, including a slot at Calgary's Sled Island this fall. Look for more dates to be announced as we get closer to the album's release.
