TRACK OF THE DAY: Raging away for just over a decade, Oakland, CA-based metallions High On Fire have forged their own cryptic sub-category of the doom/groove metal genre thanks to fiery vocals, an apocalyptic delivery and a general sensation akin to hearing Motörhead sodomize the blues through a pair of speakers blaring out of a burning tour bus.
That's why 'bangers everywhere are chomping at the bit to hear what this trio - comprised of former Sleep guitarist/vocalist Matt Pike, drummer Des Kensel and previous Zeke bassist Jeff Matz - have concocted on fifth outing Snakes For The Divine, slated for release on February 23.
The follow-up to 2007's critically-acclaimed affair, Death Is This Communion, Snakes For The Divine marks a few firsts for High On Fire. Not only does it see them working exceptionally well with Slayer and Metallica producer Greg Fidelman, but it's also their first with new home E1 Entertainment.
Most importantly, it proves to be their most accomplished, beastly, complicated and dynamic work to date, as track "Frost Hammer" instantly proves.
