Now that the Polaris Music Prize has decided on a virtual ceremony to deliver this year's award, the 2020 short list has been officially unveiled.

That's right, the jury — comprising music journalists, broadcasters and bloggers from across Canada — has whittled down the 2020 long list of 40 Canadian albums to just 10 potential winners.

Those eligible include Exclaim!'s vote for Best Album of 2020 So Far, Backxwash's God Has Nothing to Do with This Leave Him out of It, as well as entries from Pantayo, Caribou, U.S. Girls and Kaytranada, among others.

Albums included this year's award cycle must have been released between May 1, 2019, and May 31, 2020.

One grand prize of $50,000 will be awarded on October 19 during the "special cinematic event" livestream. The other short list contenders will receive prizes of $3,000 each (courtesy of Slaight Music). This year, Polaris will not be hosting its Toronto gala ahead of the award ceremony, due to ongoing coronavirus limitations.
