Hear the Week's Best New Canadian Music: Nightshifts, Shad, Jayli Wolf

BY Exclaim! StaffPublished Oct 1, 2021

If you were riding the "Wake Me Up When September Ends" wave, we've got some bad news; wakey-wakey! Can we offer you some freshly squeezed new CanCon in this trying time?

In a nutshell: Toronto's Nightshifts navigates his "20s" with the Game, Valley wants to be your (the?) "Cure" and Luna Li finds her "Flower (In Full Bloom)."

Album releases this week have us kicking off October and its full spectrum of cold-weather emotions properly thanks to Shad, Ducks Ltd., Princess Century and Exclaim! New Faves Bestfriend. We also had exciting project announcements from the Weather Station, des hume and Kiefer Sutherland.

This week marked our country's first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation — a day to commemorate survivors of the atrocities that took place in residential schools. Indigenous artists are sharing their healing processes and reclaiming their power, including Jayli Wolf with "Lead Me," Status/Non Status' "Genocidio" and Tanya Tagaq on "Tongues."

All of this is guaranteed to pair well with crunchy leaves underfoot and everything pumpkin spice. Listen to The Eh List! below, presented by Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters — all Canadian and proud of it!
