Hear the Week's Best New Canadian Music: John Orpheus, the Halluci Nation, Taylor Janzen

BY Exclaim! StaffPublished Jul 30, 2021

With July nearly in our rearview, it's about time for a refresh. Let's start with some shiny new CanCon, shall we?

In a nutshell: Manitoban Taylor Janzen navigates the body keeping score, Royal Mountain's latest signee Deanna Petcoff does guitar-driven mid-tempo with a retro feel, Flemish Eye's CIVIC TV goes apocalyptic and Said the Whale turn up the tenderness with "99 to the Moon."

This week brought huge new album releases for the Halluci Nation with One More Saturday Night, John Orpheus with Saga King and the Fantast (ic) debut from Toronto's foremost disco barn-burners Tush — whose pulsing sensibilities pair well with new songs from Breeze and des hume. Rockers Jane's Party team up with Ewan Curry and Max Cliverd on "Stay With Me," and new singles from the Trews and the Glorious Sons keep things rolling.

Winnipeg's resident acoustic cover aficionado Joey Landreth puts his spin on Theo Katzman's "Plain Jane Heroin." Exclaim! New Faves alum Spiritbox also go acoustic with a new version of their song "Constance," as does Maggie Szabo with her single "My Oh My." Elsewhere, 15-year-old AVIV links up with OCTAVIO the Dweeb on a new mix of "Black Coffee," and we travel back in time with Jimi Hendrix's '68 recording of Joni Mitchell performing "The Dawntreader" live in Ottawa.

Everything you need for your long-weekend soundtrack is all right here on The Eh! List below, presented by Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters — all Canadian and proud of it!
