Hatebreed

The Rise of Brutality

BY Jasamine White-GluzPublished Jan 1, 2006

Hatebreed’s back with the follow up to last year’s fan favourite Perseverance, and they don’t disappoint. Luckily, the band doesn’t go too far out on a limb and sticks to what they do best: growling vocals, thrashing guitars and writing every song as if it were an anthem. The band’s passion is unmistakable in each concise blast of positive hardcore. Lead vocalist Jamey Jasta’s lyrics sound more heartfelt, as if he doesn’t feel he needs to prove himself anymore. The first single, "This Is Now,” is the most commercial track on the album, but it still carries the band’s signature style with fast, metal riffs that make you move. The Rise of Brutality takes a few listens before it can be truly appreciated, but Hatebreed fans will not be disappointed.
