Vancouver-based blues duo Harpoonist & the Axe Murderer are known for their full-bodied sonic affairs; by loading their tracks with bustling keys, harmonica and even trumpet sections, the two-piece boast a sound much bigger than themselves. They enlisted fellow Vancouver artist Dawn Pemberton for a recent performance on Exclaim! TV, whose soulful voice elevated the sound to an even greater level.
Together Pemberton, Shawn "The Harpoonist" Hall and Matthew "The Axe Murderer" Rogers rip into a bluesy tune called "Shake It" from the duo's 2012 release, Checkered Past. Although there are only three performers, they effortlessly hold down the kick drum, harmonica, tambourine, guitar, powerful backup vocals and impassioned crooning. Watch the ensemble perform the burning, soulful ballad in the player below.
