Hacksaw

Hacksaw

BY Stuart GreenPublished Jun 1, 2000

Toronto's Hacksaw makes its digital-medium debut with this CD that features their latest six-song release and their previous four-song EP. Recorded two years apart (although you wouldn't know it), these two groups of songs accurately capture the band's raucous live energy while cleaned up just enough to allow the strength of the songs to shine through. With a sound somewhere between the garage rock of MC5 and the shrieking dissonance of the Jesus Lizard (think a slightly raunched up Bullet Lavolta), Hacksaw dare to replant their punk roots in a bed of hard rock dirt where it grows and blossoms into a dynamic new entity that's as dangerous as it is rump-shakingly fun.
