Give Up The Ghost

BY Jasamine White-GluzPublished Jan 1, 2006

Formally known as American Nightmare and American Nothing, Give Up The Ghost is back with a new band name, but with the same melodic hardcore fans have grown to love and respect. The intense DIY-sounding "Blue M” and the peacefully disturbing "Crush of the Yea” both drive home, while "Young Hearts Be Free Tonight” is sure to be a crowd pleaser when performed live. Tracks are generally short and passionate, with both heavy and punk-y breakdowns. Probably the best track on the disc, "We Killed It” has great guitar parts, crowd shouts and sing/screams that just epitomise this band’s intensity. The record isn’t groundbreaking, but Give Up The Ghost are toying with a formula they seem to know works.
