There certainly is a future for the Gaslight Anthem, as they make clear in this segment of Exclaim! TV's No Future.
After releasing four albums of stylistically similar albums, the New Jersey rock band decided to change things up on Get Hurt. However, they weren't concerned about hurting their career; as vocalist/guitarist Brian Fallon and guitarist Alex Rosamilia explained when we caught up with them at this year's TURF, the announcement of their diversification was met with enthusiasm by fans.
That expansion was aided on the album by producer Mike Crossey, the addition of some "monkey skulls" and an overall change of tempo, all pushed along by their punk background and resultant ethics.
But that's not all that makes up Get Hurt. It's far deeper than that, and contrary to a statement Fallon made in a previous interview, doesn't really sound like Pearl Jam's No Code.
The Gaslight Anthem are ready to Get Hurt on the road with Against Me!, whom will join the Jersey boys for a romp across North America.
Canadian tour dates:
09/14 Ottawa, ON - Ottawa Folk Festival
09/18 Montreal, QC - Metropolis
09/19 Toronto, ON - Sound Academy
