Flanger

Midnight Sound

BY Noel DixPublished Nov 1, 2000

Those German lads are at it again with their keyboards, piecing together their second effort for Ninja Tune. Midnight Sound is heavily jazz-influenced, with a little salsa and German rock thrown in to spice things up, but that's about as far as it goes. Flanger can come across as being a tad cheesy at times, with lame guitar effects and dreadful wah-wah as well. The album's sound, which is basically constant keys and a jazzy snare, tends to wear thin after the first few tracks and in the end the only thing separating Flanger from the electronic scene and performing at your local drinking-hole is the Ninja seal-of-approval.
