From the second he took the stage with violin, sampler and keyboard in tow, Final Fantasy (aka Owen Pallett) redefined the rich possibilities of the one-man show. Recording loops, playing over and adding to them, he created what could be deemed indie-classical: beautifully crafted, soaring fragility, lifted higher by lyrics of tragedy and comedy, heartbreak and magic, sung in a stained-glass voice both clear and textured. Add in the venues warm atmosphere (and temperature), endearing banter and the visual accompaniment of fittingly romantic and playful imagery, and I got it.
