Really, no Fiery Furnaces album would be complete without some wacky concept driving it. Take their upcoming I'm Going Away, for example. This week, the brother/sister duo sent an open call out on their MySpace blog, asking fans to send in descriptions of what they think the album sounds like, without ever hearing it.
The plan is for the group to take these so called "deaf descriptions" and make another, newer Fiery Furnaces record based completely on these "fan-made, word-only, entirely unrelated" submissions. This alternate version of I'm Going Away, which could be called Exclusively-Acolyte, Altered-Otherwise, Hypo-Audio, I'm Going Away, will then be released through Thrill Jockey on June 21, the same day as the yet-unheard I'm Going Away.
Confused? Well, click here and check out some sample "deaf descriptions" and then send your own to thefieryfurnacesemail@gmail.com. Seriously, how often do you get the chance to help a band write their new album?
