Father John Misty sort of won a Grammy this past weekend (he tied with Magín Díaz) for Best Recording Package, and he finally acknowledged the honour bestowed upon the deluxe version of Pure Comedy last night (January 30).
The artist (born Joshua Tillman) is currently on tour in Australia, and while onstage in Sydney, he delivered a belated acceptance speech for the golden gramophone.
"Uh, well, thanks," he said. "I don't have a whole lot of time, but, I just wanna say fuck society."
Tillman went on to ramble about the government being a "criminal organization" and jokingly directed fans to check out FlatEarth.com.
He closed by saying, "And, you know, when I was growing up everyone told me, you know — whether it's like Mommy, Daddy, the church, schoolteachers, whoever — you know, everybody was always saying that it's what's on the inside that matters, and I think that this is really evidence of the fact that it's what's outside that matters."
