Fashawn

"Something to Believe In" (ft. Nas & Aloe Blacc)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Feb 19, 2015

Fresno rapper Fashawn will let us explore his The Ecology LP in full by the end of the month, but he's just let loose a Nas-assisted track from the album called "Something to Believe In" apart from rest of its surroundings.

The track glides by on golden soul samples, with mass brass backing up Fashawn's confident bars as much as a sonic boom beat. The verses have him noting the faithful have been kissing his feet of late, further noting that he's running the show like Russell Simmons (a har-har moment for hip-hop heads and film lovers alike). Nas delivers a set of lines weighing in on global battles and societal ills into the second half of the song, while Aloe Blacc adds a hearty hook and a verse of his own.

The Ecology arrives February 24 via Mass Appeal.
