The full-length debut from Denver, CO's Expurgate, Dementia Tremens, is 100-percent no frills, brutal death metal. While they haven't reinvented the wheel, the four-piece have unleashed a well-executed batch of slamming, guttural tracks that are positively disgusting and swathed in Dysentery- and Digested Flesh-style brutality, featuring Suffocation-esque groove and grotesque lyrical content. Highlight "Fermented Concubine Ingurgitation" is particularly crushing, with a slower-paced riff that progresses to a buzz-saw attack, while the drum work in "40oz. Facefuck" is remarkably mechanical. "Disgorging Vomitous Anomalies" features an intriguing song structure and blazing riffs that transition to heavy groove passages, while regurgitated vocals are put to good use throughout the record, sounding like a still living pig being pushed through a meat grinder. Clocking in at just less than 23 minutes, Dementia Tremens doesn't overstay its welcome, and the quality production enhances Expurgate's excellently composed, skilfully conveyed songs without tampering with their purist, brutal death metal vibe.
