There's a warmth to Róisín Murphy's latest output that couldn't have come at a better time. The breezy leadups to her upcoming record Hit Parade have ushered in the beginning of summer — or silly season, as she puts it — in a preposterous manner. A bright guitar riff sails her boat into the "off the scale" sunset she describes in "The Universe," with a tinny, on-the-nose American accent weaving in and out as it pleases. Somehow, all these intermissions and follies are effortless, and somehow, we're left with something chic as collateral. It's cool to be silly, don't you know?
