Ex-Fleet Foxes Member Josh Tillman Readies New LP as Father John Misty

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jan 31, 2012

It's only been a couple of weeks since Josh Tillman quit Fleet Foxes, but the drummer/songwriter seems to be doing well for himself. He has now signed to his former band's label, Sub Pop, and on May 1 will release his album Fear Fun under the moniker Father John Misty.

Not only has Tillman signed to Fleet Foxes' label, he's also using their studio guru Phil Ek, who mixed the new album, with Fear Fun being recored in Los Angeles with Jonathan Wilson (Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Jonathan Rice).

It's a little surprising that Tillman has decided to change his recording moniker, given that he has already released a string of solo albums under his given name. According to the press release, "During the summer of 2011, Joshua Tillman left Seattle to live in his van for two months, writing a novel under the influence of fungi and suddenly began to write songs under the name of Father John Misty."
