As an up-and-coming singer-songwriter in the Vancouver, BC pop scene, Yip has a promising voice and musical abilities. But, sadly, this sophomore release falls a bit short. Although it's helped along by producer Tom Dobrzanski (Said the Whale, A Lesser Panda, We Are the City), for that clean sound, Yip ends up feeling a bit repetitive in his song styles and lyrics. He complains through almost every song about missing people, day-to-day tasks and relationships. It can come in two ways: either it's annoying (and you're wondering why he isn't spending his time fixing these things) or you totally sympathize. Yip's songs are catchy, cute sing-alongs that feature fast acoustic guitar, keyboards and more. But hopefully what we see from Yip in the future will stick in more ways than this.
