Ethan and Maya Hawke Cover Willie Nelson for 'Light in the Attic & Friends' Compilation

It's a Record Store Day exclusive inspired by the archival label's 'Covers Series'

Greyhound bus-bravers Ethan Hawke and Maya Hawke put their money where their mouths are. The father-daughter duo have recorded a cover of Willie Nelson's "We Don't Run," which comes as part of a new Light in the Attic Records compilation.

Light in the Attic & Friends is a collection inspired by the archival label's Covers Series, arriving November 24 as a Record Store Day exclusive.

Featuring a handful of previously issued recordings and over a dozen new ones, the comp brings together a wide array of artists taking on a wide array of other artists — including BADBADNOTGOOD and Jonah Yano covering the Majestics' "Key to Love (Is Understanding)," Mac DeMarco's take on Haruomi Hosono's "Honey Moon" and more.

Ethan and his Exclaim! cover alum progeny offer up the steady-handed lead single, recorded at Electric Lady with Christian Lee Hutson — who worked on the younger Hawke's 2022 sophomore album, MOSS — behind the boards.

"This song is off Willie's brilliant album Spirit, which has been a mainstay in our home since it was released in 1996," the elder Hawke said in a statement. "Everybody needs a good anthem song. This is one of the best."

Listen to the Hawke family band's wholesome rendition of "We Don't Run" below, where you'll also find the Light in the Attic & Friends tracklist.
