The list of guest stars who appear on Queens of the Stone Age's new album just keeps on growing. The latest addition is perhaps the most unexpected one yet: pop old-timer Elton John.
The singer-pianist announced the collaboration during an appearance last night (February 6) on Chelsea Lately, which was hosted by fellow Queens collaborator Dave Grohl.
John said that he recorded his part right after making a guest appearance on Engelbert Humperdinck's new album, which is being made in Los Angeles.
"I went down and sang with him and then drove three blocks, in the Valley, I went from Engelbert to Queens of the Stone Age," John explained. "Which was, you know, a bit of a mind-fuck."
He added that the song he appears on isn't a ballad, and said that he is rarely asked to make guest appearances since people imagine he'll say no. By lending a hand to Queens of the Stone Age's new album, he joins a cast of contributors that includes Grohl, Trent Reznor, Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters, former Queens bassist Nick Oliveri and Mark Lanegan.
Video footage of John's appearance on Chelsea Lately has emerged online, but it's sadly geo-blocked in Canada. The QOTSA album is set to arrive later this year.
