Ellevator Detail Debut Album 'The Words You Spoke Still Move Me'

The Chris Walla-produced effort is previewed today with new single "Slip"

Hamilton-based trio Ellevator have announced plans for their debut album The Words You Spoke Still Move Me. The album arrives May 6 through Arts & Crafts.

Produced by former Death Cab for Cutie guitarist Chris Walla, the album is home to newly-shared single "Slip." The track has been treated to a Cam Veitch-directed "fever-dream fairytale" visual accompaniment featuring a cameo by Hawksley Workman, which you can watch below.

In a statement about the new single, singer Nabi Sue said:

We went full prog-rock on this one and tapped into some mythological nerdery. A Selkie (seal/woman from Scottish mythology) is captured by a charismatic religious leader and held against her will on land. There are many myths in which a Selkie has her skin stolen and hidden by a man after removing it to spend time on land as a woman. Without their skin, they are unable to return home to the ocean. Our Selkie returns to the water after drowning the man who held her captive.

It's easy to imbue elemental stories like this with all sorts of meanings. I think this one is about killing the things that hold us captive and returning to the water, wherever that is for you.

The latest single is the third to be released from the album, following last year's "Charlie IO" and "Easy."

Along with all the new tunes on the way, Ellevator have also mapped out an extensive North American tour. See the full list of dates, as well as the tracklisting for The Words You Spoke Still Move Me, below.
