Born to Sükk

BY Stuart GreenPublished Aug 1, 2001

Straight outta Larry Flynt, Michigan (aka Toronto) comes this unapologetic truck stop rock quintet with a soundtrack for a whiskey-fuelled night of fucking, fighting and puking. Featuring past members of funk metal practitioners Bad Blood and pop punks Trigger Happy, this bastard offspring sounds nothing like either of those bands. This is Lynyrd Skynyrd meets New Bomb Turks, Bob Seger meets Sick of it All and Molly Hatchet meets Motörhead all rolled up into one Southern-fried classic rock, hardcore metal gumbo that's heavy on the irony. They're sort of like a heavier version of Nashville Pussy without the chicks, or Monster Magnet without the rock star ambition. With tongues planted squarely in their cheeks, the band rips through six tracks on this debut EP, with such titles as "Born to Slut" and "Shot in The Head," and it's all in the name of fun. Although this is a solidly produced effort, these guys really must be seen live to be fully appreciated, but the music stands on its own, too.
