As one of the opening acts for day one of Osheaga, Dream Koala's incredibly downtempo show eased the crowd into the festival. With a guitar, a laptop and a voice that wouldn't sound out of place in an indie band, he kept things decidedly soporific. Some Namaste poses and heartfelt gestures solidified Dream Koala''s presence as a gentle soul. So much so, in fact, that he lured everyone into a build-up and implored them to jump, to which they obliged, only to have Koala push the wrong button at the proposed eruption.
He then went back to the start, and when it came time to explode again, it kicked off majestically. The track in question was "Earth," certainly the best track from his latest EP, Earth. Home. Destroyed., and infinitely better when played live. Dream Koala showed the tender side of electronic music but still managed to get bodies moving when he wanted to.
