Long defunct Canadian rockers the Doughboys have been mostly inactive since the '90s, but the band's drummer/co-songwriter Brock Pytel has since gone on to form SLIP~ons with Brian Minato, who played bass with Sarah McLachlan. They have now announced their debut EP, Heavy Machinery, and previewed it by sharing the title track.
Vancouver's SLIP~ons have been together for more than a decade, releasing the single "Apart" way back in 2012, but Heavy Machinery marks their first proper collection of songs. It was mixed by Dave Ogalvie of Skinny Puppy.
The decision to finally release an EP came after Pytel went through serious health issues in 2020. "One of the things that really hit me at that time was how little music I'd put out into the world compared to how big a part of my life making music is," he said in a statement. "I was really motivated to get things going in that regard." Vinyl copies can be pre-ordered on Bandcamp.
The song is a raw, rocking tune that harkens back to the musicians' '90s roots. Check out a video for the track below, directed by R.D. Cane.
