Coming off of the acclaim of early 2016 release Hard Settle, Ain't Troubled, Ontario folk artist Donovan Woods has revealed he's packing a few extras from those recording sessions onto a new EP. Titled They Are Going Away, the digital-only collection sees release September 23 through Woods' own Meant Well imprint.
A press release explains that the new EP features three songs initially prepped at the same time as his breakthrough full-length, though they were left off the set because Woods "didn't want to rush the lyrics or force them to be finished." Of those tracks, "What They Mean" has apparently become an in-concert "fan favourite."
The EP also features now-ready numbers "It'll Work Itself Out," a song about someone "travelling furiously to outrun problems," and "Drove Through Town." Wrapping up the EP is brand new moving-on tune titled "Empty Rooms."
"The songs are about coping with loss, and wholesale changes, that sort of thing," Woods said in a statement of They Are Going Away's focus. "The title I suppose is trying to get at the temporariness of everything. Time speeds up when you get older, that's an observable fact. It starts to feel like you're always chasing some ineffable thing. It's why your dad often had a slightly bewildered look in his eyes."
