Last night (December 17), Donald Glover wrapped up his "This Is America Tour," which he is calling his final tour as Childish Gambino. During the show, he revealed that his father recently passed away. In memory of Donald Glover Sr., the rapper and actor previewed some new music.
"I lost my father a couple weeks ago," Glover said in a video from the show that can be viewed here. "I wanted to play him some of the new songs, but he didn't want to hear them because he was like, 'I know they'll be great.' I'm not saying that to talk about music, I say that to talk about trust."
Glover's father had regularly paid tribute to his son's success through the Twitter account @DonaldsDad.
At a different tour stop, Glover added that 2018 hasn't been an easy year for anyone. "I lost a lot of good people. I know it's been a tough year for everybody, that's what's crazy," he said. "I wish I could change everything for everybody."
