Dominique Fils-Aimé wrapped up a trilogy of albums in 2021 with Three Little Words, and now the Montreal artist is opening a fresh chapter with "Cheers to New Beginnings," a single from her upcoming album Our Roots Run Deep, due out September 22 via Ensoul Records.
The singer's previous album trilogy celebrated the histories of blues, jazz and soul, respectively. "Cheers to New Beginnings" continues down a soulful path, its wordless, a cappella vocal riff gradually building with a slinky groove and trumpet-wailing climax.
Our Roots Run Deep was produced, mixed and engineered by Jacques Roy, who also plays bass. Recording took place at Les Studios Opus in Assomption, QC. An announcement describes it as having "a loose, dreamlike narrative structure that tells a story of growth."
