Doja Cat has announced that she has had tonsil surgery and will consequently need to cancel her upcoming summer tour commitments to recover.
"The surgery is routine, but the recovery is going to take awhile due to swelling," she told fans in a note posted to Twitter this afternoon. "I feel horrible about this but can't wait for this to heal and get back to making music and create an experience for y'all."
The multi-hyphenate performer was scheduled to support the Weeknd on his After Hours Til Dawn Tour, as well as make appearances at several big festivals like Lollapalooza.
Yesterday, she explained the root of the issue in another tweet, sharing that she had developed a tonsil infection before last weekend's Billboard Music Awards. She had been taking antibiotics to treat it but forgot and proceeded to drink wine and vape, resulting in a "nasty ass growth" on her tonsil.
