Long-running experimental German punk unit Die Goldenen Zitronen have been making music for over three decades, but before they unveil their 11th studio album Flogging a Dead Frog, Exclaim! has got your first look at a new video for forthcoming album cut "If I Were a Sneaker."
The new record features songs from the band's recent releases rearranged and reworked for English-speaking audiences — delivering both instrumental tracks and translated versions of old favourites. "If I Were a Sneaker" originated as a song about German immigration policies, but proves to transcend geographical borders in its new form.
A description of the video explains that the song's lyrics "illuminate the juxtaposition between Europe's closed-door immigration policies and the free global movement of consumer items," ironically highlighting that majority of the "successful elite" that run the country come from diverse backgrounds.
Watch the clip for the politically motivated "If I Were a Sneaker" in the player below. Flogging a Dead Frog arrives on September 18 via Altin Village & Mine.
