On their fifth studio album, Christian metal band Demon Hunter deliver 11 tracks demonstrating their continuous growth since forming in early 2000. Collaborating with the likes of Dave Peters of Throwdown and Björn Strid of Soilwork, the album showcases Demon Hunter's many facets of musicianship, as they remain heavy, but have spurts of enticing melodies and slight electronica influences. "Collapsing" features Strid's distinct, clean, yet harsh, vocals blending perfectly with Demon Hunter vocalist Ryan Clark's. Although the least technical, "LifeWar" is the album's most unique track, with the band moving away from their usual hard-hitting sound. Embodying a militia theme, the song's bouncing guitar chugs and succinct drum rolls conjure a marching imagery. The World Is A Thorn is Demon Hunter's attempt to remove themselves from the increasingly generic-sounding Christian metal scene.
