Whether it's singing about finding the perfect girl or being a teller of tall tales, no other singer-songwriter epitomizes the Prairie experience quite like Del Barber. That's why for his fourth studio album — and first for True North Records — the country crooner decided to chart out his roots in Western Canada, delivering a 14-track LP that fully captures the sounds of the flatlands. His new record, Prairieography, won't see it's release until February 4. While you wait, stream the album in full on Exclaim.ca
Recorded live-to-tape at Empire Recording in Barber's native Winnipeg, the album finds the feel-good folkie expanding on the rustic roots music that made 2012's Headwaters such a success. Album opener "Living with a Long Way to Go" details a hard luck life over crystal-clear guitar tones (provided in part by lap steel player Bill Western, who re-recorded his parts in a 150-foot grain silo for added reverb), while "The Sparrow and the Crow" and "Yellowhead Road" recall the rollicking rhythms of alt-country's past.

Also, don't forget to catch Barber as he tours across Canada into early spring. You can see all the dates here.
