The Last Days of War

It's baffling that in the death- and shock-obsessed metallic underground there are so few war-inspired death metal bands. You would think something as brutal as human history would have a stronger influence on that particular genre. Decaying's third album, The Last Days of War, is heavy while also being a history lesson. Covering some of the most ferocious battles throughout WWI and WWII, Decaying do their best to sonically recreate the turmoil of combat. After a brief instrumental intro, the album immediately moves into "Operation Overlord" and much like the Germans on D-Day, you're caught totally by surprise. The driving guitar riff at the beginning immediately sets the tone, as Decaying prefer to keep their metal simple and heavy. Focusing on just a couple of key riffs and a ton of speed ("The Ardennes Offensive" being the fastest in their arsenal), The Last Days of War is going to create some epic battles of its own in the pit.
