Toronto's Decades have just recently released a very solid self-titled debut on which they showcase a remarkable knack for '80s style post-punk reminiscent of the Cure and Joy Division. The band have roots in more lo-fi garage rock and this background seems to show up appropriately in their live performance. While remaining tight and sounding just as polished as you'd expect from a band steeped in '80s new wave, the band put on an undeniably exciting show that somehow threatens an apocalyptic explosion. Singer Mike Kaminski's echoed vocals evoke a Robert Smith feeling, but he's also capable of producing a very impressive growl when necessary. Kaminski demonstrated this ability on set closer and highlight "Tonight Again." Decades music teeters on the edge of detonation, but suitably never quite arrives.
