Death In Vegas

Scorpio Rising

BY Cheryl ThompsonPublished Apr 1, 2004

Scorpio Rising starts off like any other pop rock/electronica band with hard guitar riffs infused with what can best be described as electronically engineered vibration sounds. However, Death in Vegas is an appropriately titled group in that this album drags you into wanting to end it all. With song titles like "Hands Around My Throat” and "Killing Smile” there’s an undeniable theme for sure, but halfway through you wish they would just pick a genre and stick with it — are you rock or electronica? There are a few interesting sporadic vocal additions by Liam Gallagher on the title track and Paul Weller on "So You Say You Lost Your Baby” that give the album enough sugar to pass but not enough spice to be immortalised.
