If you've been waiting until the new year to ask Zooey Deschanel for her hand in marriage it appears Ben Gibbard beat you to the punch. According to several reports from Us, People and MTV News, the Death Cab for Cutie front-man proposed to the She & Him vocalist before Christmas and she accepted, a decision that's guaranteed to send shock waves of disappointment amongst would-be suitors in the indie rock community.
According to a "source close to the couple," quoted by Us, the 28-year-old Deschanel and 32-year-old Gibbard are "so thrilled... Zooey was swept off her feet, and Ben is so excited."
Gibbard by no means marks the first rock-star beau that's courted Deschanel, who's previously dated musician/actor Jason Schwartzman and Mickey Madden from Maroon Five. In fact, Deschanel has dated so many rock dudes in the past that the Gibbard engagement story was preceded by an apparently false report on Monday (December 29) that she had got engaged to AFI bassist Hunter Burgan.
According to online reports, Gibbard and Deschanel have been dating for nearly a year and previously shared the same stage at an Obama fundraiser in August, when they dueted on the Everly Brothers song "Dream."
No word yet on the wedding date or if Gibbard wore his creepy glasses when he popped the question.
