David Crosby will release new album For Free next month, and the songwriter has now shared a pair of tracks from the effort.
Crosby has delivered both the album's title track with Sarah Jarosz — a cover of Joni Mitchell's original that appeared on her 1970 album Ladies of the Canyon — and "Rodriguez for a Night," which he co-wrote with his son, James Raymond, and Steely Dan's Donald Fagen.
"Joni's the greatest living singer-songwriter, and 'For Free' is one of her simplest," Crosby previously said of the first song. "It's one of my favourite songs because I love what it says about the spirit of music and what compels you to play."
Of his recording with Fagen, he added, "Steely Dan's my favourite band and I've admired Donald a long time, so that was a thrill for us."
Both "For Free" and "Rodriguez For a Night" follow the previously shared "River Rise" with one-time Steely Dan session vocalist and former Doobie Brother Michael McDonald. You can hear the two new songs below.
For Free arrives July 23 via BMG, complete with the album art painted by Joan Baez seen above.
