David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's Musical 'Here Lies Love' Is Heading to Broadway

It's derived from their 2010 concept album about Imelda Marcos

Back in 2010, David Byrne and Fatboy Slim collaborated on Here Lies Love, a concept record about Imelda Marcos, wife of former Filipino dictator Ferdinand Marcos. Now, after its 2013 adaptation into a musical, the disco-pop performance is making its way to Broadway.

The production will tell the story of Imelda in conjunction with that of the People Power Revolution, which inevitably ended her and her husband's reign of power. Set to open this summer, Here Lies Love will see Tony Award winner Alex Timbres return as director with choreography by Annie-B Parson.

The performance will be interactive, as a press release says the show "will transform the venue's traditional proscenium floor space into a dance club environment, where audiences will stand and move with the actors."

"As a team of binational American producers — Filipinos among us — we are thrilled to bring Here Lies Love to Broadway! We welcome everyone to experience this singularly exuberant piece of theatre," a statement from the producers reads. "The history of the Philippines is inseparable from the history of the United States, and as both evolve, we cannot think of a more appropriate time to stage this show. See you on the dance floor!"

This obviously isn't Byrne's first rodeo on Broadway — Here Lies Love follows his 2019 musical American Utopia, which is still running.
