Although many consider Dave Matthews Band's highly musical funk rock offensive to their ears, this usually just results in the group being ignored or lightly mocked. One person, however, took his disdain for the popular frat rock combo a step further, as the band were recently the target of a terrorist plot in Chicago.
According to the Chicago Tribune [via MTV News], a 22-year-old named Sami Samir Hassoun was arrested for dropping a bomb in a garbage can just outside Wrigley Firled, where a DMB concert was scheduled to take place on September 18. The bomb was intended to blow up just as Dave Matthews fans were swarming out of the stadium.
Fortunately, the bomb was a dud that had been given to Hassoun by the FBI, who had been watching him since the start of his plan. Undercover agents had been following his every move, even paying him $2,700 so he could focus on bomb locations full-time. The attack wasn't only motivated by a dislike of DMB, but was part of a desire to undermine Chicago's mayor.
Representatives from Dave Matthews's camp have declined to comment at this point.
