Cryptorips are a Nova Scotia-based band who feature some familiar faces: Matt McQuaid (Holy Fuck), Mark Mullane (North of America) and Adam Hartling (Long Weekends), plus Rob Oxner. As they get ready to play a couple of shows next week, we can hear their first two recordings.
Both "Glenwood G.G." and "Hau Kea" are angry noise-rock offerings on which distorted blasts of guitar and pummelling rhythms provide the stormy backdrop for brash vocals that favour lip-curling attitude over melody. Both cuts contain tense comedowns prior to heavy finales.
A description on Bandcamp notes that these recordings are "un-un-un-mixed-mastered." Check out the rough tunes below, along with a promo video for the group's upcoming shows.
Tour dates:
07/14 Toronto, ON - Drake Hotel Underground *
07/15 Montreal, QC - Bar Le Ritz PDB *
* with Swirlies
