There's something so comfortable to me about a collaboration between Crumb and Melody's Echo Chamber, maybe because many of my university days were soundtracked by both of them. The mid-late 2010s hosted a variety of acts on the psych-pop to jangle pipeline, lending a tough-to-place air of nostalgia. As much as "Le Temple Volant" evokes that place, it doesn't cling tightly. A looming hip-hop drum program carries the track as its stoney synths and reverb-drenched vocals from Melody Prochet and Lila Ramani pull you underwater. It's slightly dejected, in the same way that wistfulness can sting in a good way. Perhaps there's something therapeutic in hurting for your past self.
