Californian hip-hop ensemble the Coup are the latest act to appear on Coastal Frequencies, with this instalment featuring footage of their performance at Vancouver's Fortune Sound Club on November 14.
In addition to their energetic live delivery, the video features bandleader Boots Riley discussing the band's ever-shifting place in the musical fabric of hip-hop, and the change he wants to see in the world. Blending funk, rap, punk and soul, their unique and politically-minded sound continues to evolve on their latest record Sorry to Bother You.
The new video, however, features some choice live cuts from way back in the band's discography. Catch the Coup's contagious energy by watching performances of classics "5 Million Ways to Kill a C.E.O.," "We Are the Ones" and "My Favorite Mutiny."
Coastal Frequencies is presented in partnership with Become the Media and Prairie Coast Films. You can watch the latest episode, featuring the Coup, in the player below.
